Abstract

Turbulent free jet flows are present on several processes and technological applications, also being widely used as a benchmark problem for turbulent models validation. In the present work, a numerical study was carried out using different types of turbulence models, including 1-equation (Spalart-Allmaras), 2-equations (k-e Standard, k-e Realizable, k-e RNG, k-w and k-w SST) and 5-equations (Reynolds Stress) models. The results of the models were compared to each other and to experimental data of Hussain et al. (1994). The self-similar profiles of mean velocities and turbulent stresses showed a good agreement with the referred work. The performance of the models was also evaluated based on the computational effort and the comparison with the literature data.
